At The Calming Center, we understand that finding the right counselor and scheduling your first session can feel overwhelming. Our goal is to make the process as seamless as possible. We prioritize prompt communication, ensuring timely responses to phone calls, messages, and emails while addressing any questions you may have about counseling. Our flexible office hours accommodate both work and school schedules. We are committed to providing an unbiased, supportive environment where clients feel safe to seek help without fear of judgment.

Bethany Oberg

Owner, LCMHC, QS, LPC

This year, Bethany celebrates 20 years in the field of mental health. Bethany’s counseling approach is rooted in building a strong client-therapist relationship which is the essential cornerstone of the foundation for meaningful growth and change. Bethany utilizes a variety of therapeutic techniques, including CBT, IFS, SFBT, and Strategic therapy. With her client-centered approach, she guides her clients through emotional healing, helping them find solutions to restore their sense of inner peace and well-being.

Bethany currently serves as an internship-site supervisor with Wake Forest University, providing training and mentorship for graduate students in their Clinical Mental Health Counseling Program.

Outside of the office, Bethany enjoys family time with her three children, hiking with her black lab Mollie, and unwinding on her porch swing.

Catie McMillian

Catie is a graduate of Wake Forest University’s Clinical Mental Health Counseling Program and is currently working towards becoming a licensed mental health counselor. Catie is passionate about helping individuals in all walks of life by assisting them with recognizing that change and growth are possible.

Catie has a tremendous heart for individuals and families struggling with substance use/addiction.

When she is not counseling, Catie enjoys spending time with her family and friends playing guitar, going on hikes, and kayaking. Although she does not currently have any children, Catie loves her three fur babies: Rex, Knight, and Miss Kitty.

Aidan Berman

Aidan is currently pursuing his counseling master’s degree at Wake Forest University. He is passionate about fostering resilience, guiding individuals toward personal growth, and helping clients reach their full potential. Using a client-centered approach, Aidan strives to create a safe space where clients feel comfortable and understood.

As part of his internship in the graduate program for mental health counseling at Wake, Aidan specializes in focused, problem-solving counseling for teens/young adults facing important academic/career decisions during transitional times in their lives.

In his free time, Aidan enjoys running, hiking, reading, and watching basketball. In the Winter, Aidan travels to his hometown in Maine to ski and spend time with family.
